If I recall correctly, the presence of the giant mechaspider owes a lot to a not-so-secret what-the-hell’s-wrong-with-you giant spider obsession on the part of the director.

My much younger self really liked it, then saw it in college and though it was kinda corny, then saw the original tv show and the corny factor was just right.
